Municipal House Prague History of the Municipal House Prague: It is one of the most famous Art Nouveau buildings in Prague. Municipal House is situated on the Republic Square (no. 5), in the neighborhood of the Powder Tower. It serves mainly ceremonial purposes. On the site of today’s Municipal House Prague was originally the residence of Czech kings, King’s Court. This complex was built around 1380. The Charles Bridge has mathematical significance Charles IV laid the first stone of this famous monument at 5.31 am on July 9, 1357. The notoriously superstitious king was into astrology and numerology, and chose this date because of its written form: 1-3-5-7-9-7-5-3-1 (year, day, month, time).
