The South Gardens of Prague Castle with a stunning view of Prague centre

The South Gardens of Prague Castle  were established beneath Prague Castle. The last renovation in 2012 restored their original appearance from 1920’s when they were renovated for the first Czechoslovak president T. G. Masaryk by well-known Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik. The South Gardens are nearly 500 metres long and in the summer tourist season, it is possible to enter them from Opyš near the eastern gate or via the Bull Staircase from the Third Courtyard. The west gate between Hradčany Square (Hradčanské náměstí) and the South Gardens is for exit only. We had amazing hamburger feom wild bear meat – really special tasty and Angus blue cheese hamburger was nice too. The bar tender was very lovely and friendly person. Not expensive for its location.

Vaclav Havel memorial

A small square by the National Theater in Prague was renamed after the late president of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Havel. Vaclav Havel memorial was also unveiled there in 2016. Václav Havel (5 October 1936 – 18 December 2011) was a Czech writer and dramatist famous for his work in the Theatre of the Absurd, who became a politician and served as the last President of Czechoslovakia, and the first President of the Czech Republic.

St. George´s Basilica, Prague Castle

St. George Basilica Prague The second ecclesiastical building in Prague Castle was St. George Basilica Prague, which was founded in 920 by Vratislav, the father of St. Wenceslas´. The church was set alight during a siege of the castle by Konrad of Znojmo in 1142. Afterwards, it was reconstructed. The basilica was extended westwards, where two steeples and a triple-nave crypt under the presbytery were built. The 12th-century Romanesque basilica with two white argillite steeples including interiors has remained intact, although several changes were made in the Gothic period, like St.Ludmilaús Chapel dating from the 13th century and early 16th-century Renaissance alterations. Tha Baroque period is represented by the west facade from the second half of the 17th century and decorated with statues.
