One of the most interesting modern Prague palazzos was built between 1907-1920. The investor, organizer and constructor, rolled into one, was ing. Vácslav Havel, entrepreneur, whose grandson – Václav Havel – later became President. Lucerna Palace also played an important role on 28 October, 1918. Indeed, it housed the headquarters of the Corn Office, and wending their way to it were two of the five main godfathers of the Republic – Antonín Švehla and František Soukup, to get the keys to the grain supply to feed the inhabitants of the nascent State.
