Palladium Prague- the biggest shopping centre in the Prague centre
Palladium Prague was built on a site of the former “Jiří z Poděbrad” Barracks on Republiky Square. The Barracks had been under the army’s ownership for more than two hundred years (1780s — 1996). There were many famous Czech personalities within the army crew, for example J.K. Tyl who wrote lyrics to a Czech national anthem. The complex became dilapidated in the second half of the 20th century as the facilities were not used very much. While occupied by the army, the complex was completely closed to the public.
In the end of 20th century, the Ministry of Defence decided that the site should serve a more useful purpose. A tender had been announced for property sale, its reconstruction and extension. It was a renown developer European Property Development (“EPD”), that won a tender. And in May 2005, construction works had started. In 25 October 2007, Palladium Prague was open for public. Since then Palladium Prague has become a remarkable landmark of the city center and one of the most popular shopping destination in Prague.
PALLADIUM is not just a shopping center. Especially due to the history and the distinctive character of the site it is a remarkable landmark in the heart of Prague. The architectural concept was aimed at sensitively blending a historic building with new elements. As a result, to form a unique combination which makes a special experience out of shopping. Taking its cue from the rich musical and historical heritage of the site, the theme is one of Czech art and history. Visitors can both admire the archeological foundations which have been sensitively incorporated into the modern mall architecture, and experience masterpieces of Czech contemporary art displayed in common areas as well.
PALLADIUM is the largest one-stop shopping destination in the centre of Prague with 180 shops and 20 restaurants. 2Is there a Tax Free Shopping in Palladium?
YES!
Tax Free Shopping is a service for tourists whose residence is not in the EU. They can ask for a submission of VAT refund form while making their purchases as long as they meet the following conditions:
the buyer´s residence has to be located outside of the EU
the minimum purchase from one merchant in one day is 2,001 CZK
the buyer gets a Tax Free form, which has to be filled in properly
these goods have to be exported within 3 months, from the end of the month in which they were purchased
when exporting goods (going across the EU border) the properly filled in form has to be stamped by the customs authority
it is necessary to submit a filled in and stamped form together with the original receipt at the Refund Office to get the VAT refunded
