This Early Baroque church was originally part of the former Jesuit dormitory (allegedly the third largest Jesuit complex in Europe), which today serves as a teaching hospital. A dominant feature of Karlovo Square, the church was built from 1665 to 1671 by the architect Carlo Lurago. The interior impresses visitors with its rich Baroque decoration and the effect of scattered light. The furnishings come primarily from the period around the year 1770. This Gothic parish church, consecrated to the royal couple Henry and Kunhuta, was founded at the same time as Prague’s New Town in 1348. It was constructed of quarried stone, which was revealed when its stuccoed exterior was removed during an early 20 th century renovation. Since 2008, both a Czech and a Slovak parish are active here. The Jidřišská Tower, which is the largest freestanding bell tower in Prague, belongs to the church. Contacts Church of St Henry and St Kunhuta (Kostel sv. Jindřicha a sv. The current early Baroque appearance of this church of the Order of the Knights of the Cross with a Red Star dates back to 1679-1685. Its magnificent interior decoration, including a fresco of the Last Judgment by V. V. Reiner in the monumental, nearly 41 m high dome, can be admired during one of the many regular concerts of religious music that are held here. Concertgoers will especially appreciate the sound of the second oldest organ in Prague – a unique Baroque one dating from 1702. Contacts Church of St Francis Seraph (Kostel sv. This Gothic structure is probably from the second quarter of the 14th century. Over the centuries, the church has been gradually remodelled and rebuilt into the structure we see today – an irregular four-aisled basilica. The church’s furnishings are primarily Baroque. According to historical sources, the Church of St Castulus was one of the places where the remains of St Agnes of Bohemia may have been located. However, an archaeological excavation in 2010 was unable to confirm that the remains of this renowned Czech saint were here. Contacts Church of St Castulus (Kostel sv. This Early Baroque building, dating back to 1611, was rebuilt from 1634 to 1669 by the Carmelite order. The church is famous for its statuette of the Infant Jesus of Prague, originally from Spain and donated to the Carmelites by Polyxena of Lobkowicz in 1628.
