The German Lutherans proceeded with building this church after they failed to obtain any of the existing churches in the Old Town for their own worship. The largest Protestant church in Prague was originally built in Gothic-Renaissance style between 1611 and 1615, and has been rebuilt several times. This church is considered to be one of the most valuable early Baroque monuments in Prague. It was formerly the primary church of the Jesuits in the Czech Republic. The church is currently used by the Roman Catholic Academic Parish, and is a venue for organ concerts. This Empire-style church with two columns and pilasters with Ionic capitals on its façade was built between 1817 and 1824 by the Order of the Piarists. After their work was finished, it was entrusted into the spiritual care of the Salesians of Don Bosco. Inside the church there is a life-sized photo of the Shroud of Turin, the cloth in which the body of Jesus was allegedly wrapped. Masses are also held in Italian. Of particular architectural interest in the church, founded by Charles IV in a picturesque corner of the Nusle valley directly opposite Vyšehrad, is its star vaulting. The vaulting is 24 meters wide, while the arches themselves are only 20 cm thick and rest on walls that are less than 1 meter thick. Other interesting attractions of the church are a copy of the Holy Steps and the Bethlehem Cave with the Holy Family. It is the oldest Nativity scene in Prague churches. This small wooden Orthodox church with a shingled roof, situated in the Kinský Gardens, is a typical folk wooden log building from Subcarpathian Russia of the 18th century, today Zakarpatí in Ukraine. It was moved to Prague from Medvedovce near Mukachevo, to where it was moved from Velké Lúčky in 1793, and was built again in Prague in 1929. The church is part of the collection of the Ethnographic Museum. The Church of Sts.Simon and Jude stands on the site of a former hospital chapel. In the 18th century, it was adapted in High Baroque style and an organ was installed, an instrument with such excellent sound that such important personalities as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn both played on it. Overlooking Sibeliova St. is the Church of St. Norbert, a Neo-Romanesque three-aisled basilica from the late 19th century. During this time, the district of Střešovice became independent from the Strahov Premonstratensians; however, the church retained its link to the founder of the Premonstratensian order and church patron, St. Norbert. This reinforced concrete church, built between 1929 and 1930, is widely considered by experts to be one of the most successful Constructivist buildings in the Czech Republic. The architect, Josef Gočár, made masterful use of the sloping terrain, which is reflected in the stepped roof and the illumination of the church nave with strips of windows in individual “steps”. The Church of St Václav was built in the pure style of an early Christian basilica and is one of the most significant Czech Neo-Renaissance monuments. The church, with its three-aisled nave and twin 50 m towers, was designed by the architect Antonín Barviti and was built between 1881 and 1885.
