4 reasons why to visit the hill of Petrin

1

PETRIN TOWER

Climb this elegant lookout tower inspired by the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris!

Petřín Lookout Tower, one of the most prominent landmarks of Prague, was built as part of the Jubilee Exhibition in 1891 as a loose copy inspired by the Eiffel Tower (at a ratio of 1:5). It is 63.5 metres high, and 299 steps lead to its peak, which is at the same altitude as the real Eiffel Tower.

MIRROR MAZE

Get lost in the Mirror Maze :) !

A favourite spot for children and adults alike. From the outside, this building resembles a small castle, but inside, instead of a labyrinth with mysterious stone hallways, you'll find one made of mirrors

STEFANIK´S OBSERVATORY

Visit Stefanik´s Obsarvatory!

The Štefánik Observatory has stood in Petřín Park since 1928. Its current appearance dates back to an extensive renovation that was carried out in the 1970s. The most interesting attractions offered at the observatory consist of the public viewings of the day and night skies, a permanent exhibition about astronomy, and tours of the observatory’s equipment.

NEBOZIZEK RESTAURANT

Don´t miss Nebozizek restaurant in the middle of the hill!

Set on a hill overlooking Prague's Old Town...During a landslide in 1965, the former 17th-century vineyard estate was so badly damaged that it had to be torn down and a replica built in its place. The building has been home to a fancy restaurant since 1883.

THE MEMORIAL OF VICTIMS OF COMMUNIST ERA

Spend a few minutes in front of the Memorial of victims of the Communist era

Located at the base of Petrin Hill on Ujezd Street in Mala Strana is this disturbing series of statues dedicated to the victims of the Communist era between 1948-1989. A original total of seven (two were damaged due to a bomb in 2003) male statues appear to be disintegrating and decaying before our very eyes, the first man whole, the next man missing a limb, ripped open, to the last man who has become virtually nothing. It is to symbolize how political prisoners under Communism were affected, and as a Memorial it is very affective. During the evening, the memorial is lit up providing an even more eerie look. The memorial was unveiled on May 22, 2002, and is the work of Olbram Zoubek, a famous Czech sculptor and architects Jan Kerel and Zdenek Holzel.
